VonageUpdate June 25, 2009: I picked up a new Vonage V-Portal to replace my old D-Link VTA adapter. Upon installation of the V-Portal, I discovered that the modem’s internal time zone was set to Alaska time. I called Vonage customer support and had them reprogram the V-Portal to the Mountain time zone and I was good to go.

The Vonage customer support numbers can be found on Vonage’s home page, at the bottom. Click on the “Contact Us” link.

I was having the usual trouble with my caller I.D. time being reset every time I received a call. I searched the internet for the obvious cures, but none worked. Why do people who have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about profess to have solutions to problems?

Here’s why some Vonage customers have that time resetting problem with Caller I.D.: each Vonage telephone modem comes pre-set with a default time zone.

Now here’s the solution: call Vonage customer support and ask them to reset their modem to your time zone, and voila! Problem solved.

Don’t bother trying the internet solutions that you find should you search online for answers to the problem. None of those work.

Well then, Tim, I’d say you definitely need to get back to your landline and it’s exorbitant bills. Thoroughly modern technology appears to have you baffled.

I have discovered that when I am doing any downloads while talking on my Vonage line, the download eats up a lot of bandwidth, thereby deteriorating line quality. When a download finally completes, line quality goes back to normal. I have no problem with that.

I have the same issue – emailed tech support and tech support emails me back asking for my account number etc before they can confirm its me ……. OK in order to submit the request in the first place they forced me to enter all that. Some jerk in India just blows me off with a canned response. This has happened everytime I’ve tried to deal with Vonage via email. The only way I get service is to call in and request to cancel service.

I’m getting rid of Vonage. The call quality sucks on the Vportal. I get a constant stuttering of incoming voice. In fact I’ve never has good consistant call quality from Vonage. They have replaced the device 3 times now. Each time I have to pay to ship the old one back.

I just want the correct time. So I should have to call in for that? This is just monkey business. Constant resetting, replacing and phone calls to tech support. Its so much easier to just use my normal phone – and I can actually hear the person on the ther end. In the past people couldnt hear me. Now with the Vportal they can hear me but I cant hear them. Nice going Vonage.

Yes I can vouch for that – I submitted a support case online, at night, and within minutes they had fixed the problem in my V-Portal.
